Entrance: 475 Gather us in

Here in this place,
new light is streaming,
Now is the darkness vanished away,
See in this space our fears and our dreamings,
Brought here to you in the light of this day.

Gather us in-
the lost and forsaken,
Gather us in-
the blind and the lame;
Call to us now,
and we shall awaken,
We shall arise at the sound of our name.

We are the young-
our lives are a myst’ry,
We are the old –
who yearn for your face,
We have been sung throughout all of hist’ry,
Called to be light to the whole human race.

Gather us in-
 the rich and the haughty,
Gather us in-
 the proud and the strong;
Give us a heart so meek and so lowly,
Give us the courage to enter the song.

Here we will take the wine and the water,
Here we will take the bread of new birth,
Here you shall call your sons and your daughters,
Call us anew to be salt for the earth.

Give us to drink the wine of compassion,
Give us to eat the bread that is you;
Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion
Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Gather us in and hold us forever,
Gather us in and make us your own;
Gather us in-
all peoples together,
Fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

Gospel Acc:  72 Advent Gospel Acc. for younger people

(week 1)
Stay awake, be ready
You do not know the hour when the Lord is coming.
Stay awake, be ready. The Lord is coming soon!
Alleluia, alleluia! The Lord is coming Soon.

Offertory:   607 Let all mortal flesh

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
And with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing worldly minded,
For with blessing in His hand
Christ our God to Earth descendeth,
Our full homage to demand.

King of Kings, yet born of Mary,
As of old on Earth He stood,
Lord of Lords in human vesture,
in the Body and the Blood.
He will give to all the faithful
his own self for heav’nly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven
preads its vanguard on the way,
as the Light of Light descendeth
from the realms of endless day,
that the pow’rs of hell may vanish
as the darkness clears away.

At His feet the six-winged Seraph,
Cherubim with sleepless eye,
veil their faces to the Presence,
as with ceaseless voice they cry,
‘Alleluia, alleluia,
Alleluia, Lord, most High!’

Communion:

Stay awake (Chris O’Hara)

There will be signs upon the sun
The moon and stars will share Earth's agony.
And ev'ry nation will be fearful of the sound:
the ocean's roar, the raging sea

then they will see the Son of Man
riding the clouds with pow'r and glory;
hold up your heads, your liberation is at hand:
your destiny, your destiny...

Refrain:
O stay awake, do not fear the night
The dawn will break with the Saviour's light
Your liberation is at hand:
O stay awake!  O stay awake!

The time is near, we must arise,
no longer living in the dark of night.
So arm yourselves as people living in the way
of truthfulness, integrity,

and hold a dream of days to come
when we will reach God's holy mountain
and change all weapons into instruments of peace
to sow the seed of justice.

Refrain
There is a longing in our hearts, O Lord,
for you to reveal yourself to us.
There is a longing in our hearts
for love we only find in you, our God.

1. For justice, for freedom,
for mercy: hear our prayer.
In sorrow, in grief:
be near, hear our prayer, O God.

2. For wisdom, for courage,
for comfort: hear our prayer.
In weakness, in fear:
be near, hear our prayer, O God.

3. For healing, for wholeness,
for new life: hear our prayer.
In sickness, in death:
be near, hear our prayer, O God.

4. Lord save us, take pity,
light in our darkness.
We call you, we wait:
be near, hear our prayer, O God.

Final: 986  In the day of the Lord

Refrain
In the day of the Lord, the sun will shine
like the dawn of eternal day.
All creation will rise to dance and sing
the glory of the Lord!

1. And on that day will justice triumph,
on that day will all be free:
free from want, free from fear, free to live!

2. Then shall the nations throng together
to the mountain of the Lord:
they shall walk in the light of the Lord!

3. And they shall beat their swords to plowshares;
there will be an end to war:
one in peace, one in love, one in God!

4. For Israel shall be delivered,
and the desert lands will bloom.
Say to all, “Do not fear. Here is your God!”

5. And on that day of Christ in glory,
God will wipe away our tears,
and the dead shall rise up from their graves!

6. O give us eyes to see your glory,
give us hearts to understand.
Let our ears hear your voice ‘til you come!
