http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxmzn84i7dQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46FDDHsQUIY

Lord accept the gifts we offer
at this Eucharistic feast,
bread and wine to be transformed now
through the action of thy priest.
Take us, too, Lord, and transform us,
be thy grace in us increased.

May our souls be pure and spotless
as the host of wheat so fine;
may all stain of sin be crushed out,
like the grape that forms the wine,
as we, too, become partakers
in this sacrifice divine.

Take our gifts, almighty Father,
living God, eternal, true,
which we give through Christ, our Saviour,
pleading here for us anew.
Grant salvation to all present,
and our faith and love renew.

Tune: St. Thomas (Tantum Ergo) from S. Webbe's Motetts or Antiphons
Lyrics: Sister M. Teresine Fonder (1897-1988)

Alto/harmony:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9k1ZFB9xs0

There will be signs upon the sun
The moon and stars will share Earth's agony.
And ev'ry nation will be fearful of the sound:
the ocean's roar, the raging sea

then they will see the Son of Man
riding the clouds with pow'r and glory;
hold up your heads, your liberation is at hand:
your destiny, your destiny...

Refrain:
O stay awake, do not fear the night
The dawn will break with the Saviour's light
Your liberation is at hand:
O stay awake!  O stay awake!

The time is near, we must arise,
no longer living in the dark of night.
So arm yourselves as people living in the way
of truthfulness, integrity,

and hold a dream of days to come
when we will reach God's holy mountain
and change all weapons into instruments of peace
to sow the seed of justice.

There is a time for praying
and a place in our hearts for everyone. (repeat)

Final: 84 Like a sea without a shore (Maranatha)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdPIt2GOf1s

Like a sea without a shore,
love divine is boundless.
Time is now and evermore,
and his love surrounds us.

(CHORUS)
Maranatha! Maranatha! Maranatha!
Come lord Jesus, come!

So that we could all be free,
He appeared among us,
Blest are those who have not seen,
Yet believe his promise.

All our visions all our dreams,
Are but ghostly shadows
of the Radiant clarity
waiting at life's close.

Death, where is your victory?
Death, where is your sting?
Closer than the air we breath
is our risen King.

http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/116

(1st verse a capella)
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

(enter keyboard/organ and light guitar)
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Responsorial Psalm:  992 I rejoiced when I heard them say (Verses 1, 4 & 5)
http://www.ocp.org/compositions/10411

I rejoiced when I heard them say:
‘Let us go to the house of God.’
And now our feet are standing
in your gates, O Jerusalem.

Refrain:
Shalom, shalom, the peace of God be here.
Shalom, shalom God's justice be ever near

For the peace of all nations,pray:
For God's peace within your homes.
May God's lasting peace surround us;
May it dwell in Jerusalem.

For the love of my friends and kin
I will bless you with signs of peace
For the love of God's own people
I will labour and pray for you

Offertory: 609 In bread we bring you Lord
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD2XY6SNXwM

In bread we bring you Lord, our body's' labour
In wine we offer you our spirit's grief.
We do not ask you, Lord, who is my neighbour,
But stand united now, one in belief.

O we have gladly heard your word, your holy word
And now in answer, Lord, our gifts we bring.
Our selfish hearts make true, our failing faith renew,
Our life belongs to you, our Lord and King.

The bread we offer you is blessed and broken,
And it becomes for us our spirit’s food.
Over the cup we bring your Word is spoken;
Make it your gift to us your healing blood.

Take all that daily toil plants in our heart’s poor soil,
Take all we start and spoil, each hopeful dream.
The chances we have missed, the graces we resist,
Lord, in thy Eucharist, take and redeem.

All that has life and breath, come now in praises before him!
Let the Amen sound from his people again:

Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna in the highest.

Mem. Acc. 554s-a Memorial Acclmation 1 (New Celtic Liturgy)

We proclaim your Death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again, until you come again.

Great Amen:
Amen, amen, amen, amen.

Lamb of God: plainchant

Communion: 321 Crown him with many crowns

Crown him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon his throne.
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns
all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing of him
who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless King
through all eternity.

Crown him the virgin's Son,
the God incarnate born,
whose arm those crimson trophies won
which now His brow adorn;
fruit of the mystic rose,
as of that rose the stem;
the root whence mercy ever flows,
the Babe of Bethlehem.

Crown him the Son of God,
before the worlds began,
and ye who tread where he hath trod,
crown him the Son of Man;
who every grief hath known
that wrings the human breast,
and takes and bears them for His own,
that all in him may rest.

Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed over the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save.
His glories now we sing,
who died, and rose on high,
who died eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of peace,
whose power a scepter sways
from pole to pole, that wars may cease,
and all be prayer and praise.
his reign shall know no end,
and round his pierced feet
fair flowers of paradise extend
their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown him the Lord of love,
behold his hands and side,
those wounds, yet visible above,
in beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky
can fully bear that sight,
but downward bends his burning eye
at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of Heaven,
enthroned in worlds above,
crown him the King to whom is given
the wondrous name of Love.
Crown him with many crowns,
as thrones before him fall;
Crown him, ye kings, with many crowns,
for he is King of all.

Crown him the Lord of lords,
who over all doth reign,
who once on earth, the incarnate Word,
for ransomed sinners slain,
now lives in realms of light,
where saints with angels sing
their songs before him day and night,
their God, Redeemer, King.

Crown him the Lord of years,
the Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres,
ineffably sublime.
all hail, Redeemer, hail!
For thou has died for me;
thy praise and glory shall not fail
throughout eternity.

He Is Exalted (#164 Songs of fellowship Vol. 1) - by Twila Paris

Guinness World Record attempt for Carol Singing - 16th December 2012

LATEST UPDATES:

 19 Dec: Correction: I wrongly attributed organizers as belonging to Hounslow Youth Team. It should be SSMM Sports and Cultural Society. Sorry!)

17 Dec. 2012:

Dear All,

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came and made the event a success!!! I'm still waiting to find out if we officially made a valid attempt, but last night, we think that 306 of our parish members were singing 5 required carols non-stop together from 7 pm sharp.

Many thanks to our amazing organizers: Vincent, Romain and the SSMM Sports and Cultural Society; our wonderful musicians: Clam (keyboards), Albert, Felix, Kimberley (violinists), Matias (percussion), Neil (accordion) & Romain (guitar). Also to Franco who did the sounds and lighting, and Mr. Jared Bell of SSMM school who very kindly volunteered his video services for both the WR attempt and the Advent play afterwards. We also couldn't have done it without the singers from the various choirs, who led the singing from the front. The children (and parents!) also came all dressed up in their beautiful native outfits or Christmas outfits. Also we were very fortunate to have the stewards and the judges who came to play an important part in validating our attempt.

Fr. Derek came up with the whole idea in the first place, and he and Fr. Kim were so supportive and inspirational.  They helped us to remember what was important: not the panic, nor the hype, not even the World Record Attempt itself - but that we came together in song to praise God and to welcome the coming of Jesus in the spirit of Christmas.

But the biggest THANKS goes to all the parishioners who came and answered our call!  The  minimum number of participants was 25 to make the attempt valid - we had well over 10 times that number!  We certainly filled the entire church with beautiful song. And the resounding cheer at the end of the last carol just filled our hearts with joy.  What a wonderful evening - God bless you all!

--May

Offertory:  607  Let all mortal flesh
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spwcPxux740
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wl4u8lnDQs

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
And with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing worldly minded,
For with blessing in His hand
Christ our God to Earth descendeth,
Our full homage to demand.

King of Kings, yet born of Mary,
As of old on Earth He stood,
Lord of Lords in human vesture,
in the Body and the Blood.
He will give to all the faithful
his own self for heav’nly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven
preads its vanguard on the way,
as the Light of Light descendeth
from the realms of endless day,
that the pow’rs of hell may vanish
as the darkness clears away.

At His feet the six-winged Seraph,
Cherubim with sleepless eye,
veil their faces to the Presence,
as with ceaseless voice they cry,
‘Alleluia, alleluia,
Alleluia, Lord, most High!’

721 O Lord my God (how great thy art)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhvaDJTUmrU

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Refrain:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
(refrain)

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
(refrain)

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
(refrain)

Final: 986 In the day of the Lord

Refrain
In the day of the Lord, the sun will shine
like the dawn of eternal day.
All creation will rise to dance and sing
the glory of the Lord!

1. And on that day will justice triumph,
on that day will all be free:
free from want, free from fear, free to live!

2. Then shall the nations throng together
to the mountain of the Lord:
they shall walk in the light of the Lord!

3. And they shall beat their swords to plowshares;
there will be an end to war:
one in peace, one in love, one in God!

4. For Israel shall be delivered,
and the desert lands will bloom.
Say to all, “Do not fear. Here is your God!”

5. And on that day of Christ in glory,
God will wipe away our tears,
and the dead shall rise up from their graves!

6. O give us eyes to see your glory,
give us hearts to understand.
Let our ears hear your voice ‘til you come!

To learn for next week:
819  Make way, make way (for Christ the King)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK6XuYhL7JI

Make way, make way for Christ the King
in splendour arrives,
Fling wide the gates and welcome Him
into your lives.

CHORUS:
Make way, (make way),
Make way, (make way),
for the King of kings, (for the King of kings)
Make way, (make way),
Make way, (make way),
and let His kingdom in.

VERSE 2:
He comes the broken hearts to heal
the prisoners to free,
The deaf shall hear, the lame shall dance,
the blind shall see.

VERSE 3:
And those who mourn with heavy hearts,
who weep and sigh;
With laughter, joy and royal crown
He'll beautify.

VERSE 4:
We call you now to worship Him
as Lord of all;
To have no gods before Him
their thrones must fall!

Here in this place,
new light is streaming,
Now is the darkness vanished away,
See in this space our fears and our dreamings,
Brought here to you in the light of this day.

Gather us in- the lost and forsaken,
Gather us in- the blind and the lame;
Call to us now,and we shall awaken,
We shall arise at the sound of our name.

We are the young- our lives are a myst’ry,
We are the old – who yearn for your face,
We have been sung throughout all of hist’ry,
Called to be light to the whole human race.

Gather us in-  the rich and the haughty,
Gather us in-  the proud and the strong;
Give us a heart so meek and so lowly,
Give us the courage to enter the song.

Here we will take the wine and the water,
Here we will take the bread of new birth,
Here you shall call your sons and your daughters,
Call us anew to be salt for the earth.

Give us to drink the wine of compassion,
Give us to eat the bread that is you;
Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion
Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Gather us in and hold us forever,
Gather us in and make us your own;
Gather us in- all peoples together,
Fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

948 Because the Lord is my shepherd
http://www.spiritandsong.com/products/20348 (please scroll down down to song titles & click on sample)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezmJ-MZ5PU8

1. Because the Lord is my shepherd,
I have ev’ry thing I need.
He lets me rest in the meadow and leads me
to the quiet streams.
He restores my soul and he leads me
in the paths that are right:

Refrain
Lord, you are my shepherd,
you are my friend.
I want to follow you always,
just to follow my friend.

2. And when the road leads to darkness,
I shall walk there unafraid.
Even when death is close I have courage,
for your help is there.
You are close beside me with comfort,
you are guiding my way:

3. In love you make me a banquet
for my enemies to see.
You make me welcome, pouring down honor
from your mighty hand,
and this joy fills me with gladness;
it is too much to bear:

4. Your goodness always is with me
and your mercy I know.
Your loving kindness strengthens me always
as I go through life.
I shall dwell in your presence forever,
giving praise to your name:

Final: 954 Blest be the Lord
http://youtu.be/BW5DHXIU43Y

Chorus:
Blest be the Lord; blest be the Lord,
The God of mercy, the God who saves.
I shall not fear the dark of night,
Nor the arrow that flies by day.

He will release me from the nets of all my foes,
He will protect me from their wicked hands,
Beneath the shadow of His wings I will rejoice,
To find a dwelling place secure.

I need not shrink before the terrors of the night,
Nor stand alone before the light of day.
No harm shall come to me, no arrow strike me down,
No evil settle in my soul.

Although a thousand strong have fallen at my side,
I'll not be shaken with the Lord at hand.
His faithful love is all the armour that I need
To wage my battle with the foe.

Over the cup we bring your Word is spoken;
Make it your gift to us your healing blood.

Take all that daily toil plants in our heart’s poor soil,
Take all we start and spoil, each hopeful dream.
The chances we have missed, the graces we resist,
Lord, in thy Eucharist, take and redeem.
